Fatal car accidents: New York man hit while changing flat tire.

Losing a loved one is often devastating. This is the case for a 57-year-old New York mother and her 37-year-old daughter following the news that the son and brother of these women died in a crash in the early morning hours of a recent Thursday. This was one of many car accidents that claim the lives of people who experience vehicle problems on New York highways every year.

According to authorities, a 29-year-old man and two friends — 30-year-old twins — stopped on the highway’s shoulder to change a flat tire. While they were busy with the task, a 52-year-old driver in another vehicle smashed into them. The twins survived, and paramedics transported them to a medical facility with no more than minor injuries. However, their friend suffered fatal injuries and died at the crash scene.

The report mentioned no injuries to the driver whose vehicle crashed into the men, and he apparently remained at the accident scene. Reportedly, authorities filed no charges at the time of the crash. The accident investigation is likely ongoing.

While no amount of money can ease this New York family’s sad loss, recovery of damages caused by car accidents may be pursued through the civil justice system. The surviving family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim in a civil court. If they are able to establish driver negligence, the court will adjudicate their documented claims for financial losses — including both financial and emotional damages allowed. Proving negligence may be challenging — especially if no criminal charges are filed against the other driver. However, help is available from an experienced wrongful death attorney.
