Negligent drivers often cause car accidents in New York

On Behalf of | Apr 5, 2017 | Car Accidents

Whenever New York drivers get behind the wheel, they must think about not only their own safety, but also the safety of their passengers and others in or near the roadway. Drivers who fail to use caution often cause car accidents that result in property damage and severe injuries. An elderly man recently died from the injuries he suffered as a passenger in one such collision.

According to reports, three vehicles were involved in the crash. The driver thought responsible apparently did not yield to a tractor-trailer that was making a left turn. The car hit the truck and continued to drive under the trailer, ripping off the roof of the car. It then hit a building and a parked car.

An elderly passenger riding with the driver believed to be at fault died at the scene. The driver of that vehicle suffered injuries and is currently in serious condition at a local hospital. The crash blocked traffic, but no other injuries were reported, including the truck driver that was involved in the crash.

Because the victim was killed in this collision, his family has the right to file a wrongful death claim. If their claim successfully documents negligence on the part of one or more parties, they may be entitled to receive monetary damages to help pay for funeral costs or any other expenses related to the crash. Consulting an experienced New York personal injury attorney could be beneficial for those interested in filing a claim. An attorney could provide more information and offer assistance to families who have lost loved ones in car accidents.
