Heavy machinery, elevated working areas and many other potential hazards can make construction work a dangerous undertaking. The man was doing construction work several feet off the ground at an Upper East Side apartment complex when the accident occurred. Authorities stated that he fell onto a piece of steel rebar, which caused substantial injuries. A rescue team comprised of several firefighters had to strap the man into a stokes basket to be able to lower him the six stories to street level.
Reports indicate that the construction worker suffered a serious leg injury as well as a hip injury. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Officials stated that he is expected to recover. It is unknown whether officials have determined what caused the worker to fall and whether a further investigation will be conducted.
Due to the injuries the man suffered, he may decide to file a workers’ compensation claim. He could receive monetary damages if his claim is successful, which could then help pay for medical bills and wages he may lose while in recovery.
