New York car accidents too often result in fatalities

On Behalf of | May 30, 2017 | Car Accidents

Drivers who fail to pay attention to their surroundings can easily cause collisions with other vehicles. There can be many reasons drivers may be deemed negligent after car accidents, such as speeding, texting while driving or even being too tired to drive. A recent accident that led to the death of one New York woman may be the result of a negligent driver.

The accident occurred several blocks from the victim’s home. She was riding in the front passenger seat of a car heading north on a local road. For reasons that are still unclear, a sports utility vehicle T-boned the car. Police are currently investigating the cause of the collision.

The victim suffered chest pains after the crash and was taken to an area hospital where she tragically passed away. The driver of the car and another passenger were also taken to the hospital. Their injuries were not life-threatening. The other driver was taken to a different hospital with minor injuries.

Though nothing can replace the loss of life, the deceased victim’s family likely has grounds to file a wrongful death claim against the driver believed to be at fault. They could then be awarded monetary damages if their claim successfully proves negligence on the part of that driver. Similarly, the other injured victims may choose to file personal injury claims. Any New York residents injured in car accidents or who have lost loved ones in such  a manner may be entitled to file personal injury or wrongful death claims. Experienced personal injury attorneys can provide those interested with more information.
