New York car accidents often serious when pedestrians involved

Whenever drivers get behind the wheel, they must take not only their safety into consideration, but the safety of everyone on the road. In New York and across the country, drivers must pay attention to their surroundings to insure that car accidents do not happen. Unfortunately, a mother and her three children were seriously injured in a recent collision by an allegedly reckless driver.

The victims were reportedly walking along the shoulder of a road where there is no sidewalk at the time of the collision. Police are currently investigating whether the driver may have been cut off by a taxi, indicating that road rage may have contributed to the crash. They also believe speed may have played a factor.

All four pedestrians were severely injured in the crash. They were all treated by ambulance at the scene, then the mother and her two eldest children were taken to the same hospital, while her youngest child was taken to a separate hospital. The driver has since been charged with assault, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

Though criminal charges have been filed against the driver, the injured mother may choose to file personal injury claims against the driver in civil court on behalf of herself and her children. If the claims are successful, the victims could receive monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills and any other financial losses related to the collision. New York residents who have been injured in car accidents could consult experienced New York personal injury attorneys to learn more about their options in regard to filing claims.
