Traffic lights are placed at intersections for a reason. They are intended to control the flow of traffic and create a much safer environment for drivers. When a person fails to adhere to a red light, the result can be disastrous. Many car accidents happen at such intersections as the result of a negligent driver. A recent accident in New York left several people injured and one dead.

A family of three was turning left from an eastbound lane when it was suddenly struck on the passenger side by another vehicle. The driver of the car suffered minor injury, but his wife and son were both taken to the hospital. The son remains in critical condition, but the wife passed away due to injuries. According to police, the 60-year-old driver of the other vehicle ran through a red light before crashing into the family’s car.

Before the family’s vehicle came to a halt, it also collided with a third vehicle. The driver of this vehicle was alone and sustained no injuries. Authorities from the State Police force are still investigating the accident.

Many people have suffered injury in similar car accidents. Depending on the severity of the injury, a person may end up with significant medical expenses. If the accident is the result of a negligent driver, the injured person may pursue financial restitution from the wrongful party. Many residents of New York seek legal counsel when faced with a similar situation for advice on how to proceed with a personal injury claim.
