New York construction workers face hazards on the job every day. Though not always serious, some construction accidents can lead to severe injuries. When injuries occur, those involved may consider filing workers’ compensation claims. A recent accident injured two workers when part of a wall they were working on collapsed.
The two employees were injured when part of the building they were working on collapsed and caused them to fall. Witnesses who saw the accident stated that the men were assembling a steel frame when the beam they were standing on fell. The beam was about 40 feet off the ground, but caught on a lower floor assembly and only dropped about 20 feet in total. Luckily, the men were wearing safety harnesses, which prevented them from hitting the ground.
Though the workers were spared from falling the entire distance to the ground, they still suffered injuries. Officials say both men suffered severe lower body pain as well as puncture wounds. Fire crews were on the scene to assist in the rescue, and the men were treated there before being taken to an area hospital. The local division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be conducting an investigation into the incident.
Because of the injuries they suffered, the men involved in this accident may choose to file workers’ compensation claims. These state-regulated insurance benefits could help pay for medical bills and lost wages they may incur. Any employees injured in construction accidents in New York may consider consulting an experienced attorney for more information about workers’ compensation and to receive assistance in filing claims.
