Unsafe conditions may lead to construction accidents

Anyone working in the construction industry knows that things can go wrong even when precautions are taken. When all possible safeguards are not in place, construction accidents are even more likely to happen. Six New York workers were recently injured in one such accident when the building they were working on partially collapsed.

Reports indicate that the men were working on an upper level of a Long Island apartment tower that is being built. The men were pouring concrete into a form when it collapsed onto the seventh floor below them. The Department of Buildings stopped construction at the location, citing a violation for failure to safeguard the site.

A witness stated that he heard a “big boom” and saw some men limping and others being taken out on stretchers. The New York Fire Department responded to the incident. The workers suffered a variety of injuries, including back, leg and arm injuries. All six men were taken to the hospital and are currently in stable condition.

In addition to the unexpected medical bills these workers now likely have to contend with, they may also lose wages while in recovery. To cope with these financial burdens, the workers may consider filing for workers’ compensation. If their claims are successful, they could be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills and cover any lost wages. Any employees injured in construction accidents could consult experienced New York workers’ compensation attorneys to learn more about these claims and obtain assistance in filing them.
