New York car accidents: 3-year-old killed in collision

On Behalf of | Jul 19, 2017 | Car Accidents

An automobile collision can happen in a matter of seconds. This is why it is so important for New York drivers to be aware of their surroundings. When inattentive drivers cause car accidents, those involved may suffer serious injuries. A 3-year-old girl was recently killed in one such accident that also injured two other people.

Police report that the two cars involved were both traveling east at the time of the crash. An older man driving one of the cars attempted to change lanes. In doing so, his car struck the other vehicle. The impact caused that vehicle to leave the roadway and hit a tree.

Tragically, the young girl riding in the car that hit the tree was pronounced dead at an area hospital a few hours after the crash. The other two occupants of that vehicle were injured; a passenger suffered leg fractures and the driver suffered back and neck injuries. No one in the other car suffered injuries. No criminal charges have been filed at this point, though police indicated that they were still investigating the incident.

Collisions like this often cause financial worries in addition to the emotional burdens families must face. When people suffer injuries because of the negligence of another, they have every right to seek legal advice. In some cases, the families of deceased victims may choose to file wrongful death claims. If those claims are successful, the families could be awarded monetary damages that could help pay for medical bills, funeral costs and any other expenses related to the crash. Those who have suffered injuries in car accidents can speak to an experienced New York attorney to obtain more information.
