New York car accidents: multiple pedestrians injured in crash

On Behalf of | Sep 12, 2017 | Car Accidents

Though illegal, some drivers choose to attempt to drive when intoxicated. This is never a wise decision as it often leads to car accidents that may cause serious injuries for anyone involved. Several pedestrians are lucky to be alive after being injured by an alleged drunk driver in a recent early morning crash in New York.

Reports indicate that at least 20 people were standing on the sidewalk at the time of the accident. As a car approached the group of people, it jumped the curb and hit a total of four people. The car then struck a metal fence and lost a wheel. The driver then attempted to speed away.

Six people were injured in the crash. Four were hurt as a direct result from being hit by the car and were taken to the hospital. Fortunately, none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening. Police apprehended the driver a few blocks away and arrested him. He has since been charged with driving while intoxicated.

Car accidents like this one may result in an unforeseen strain on a person’s finances in addition to the injuries they may face. To help cope with these unexpected costs, victims may be entitled to file personal injury claims against drivers believed to be responsible. When these claims are successful, claimants may receive monetary damages that can be used to help pay for medical bills and any other related expenses. Anyone in a similar situation can contact an experienced New York attorney for more information and assistance.
